Created in 1965 by the Dutchman Ed van Reine, the organization offers today a database of 9 900 European campsites throughout Europe.

More than 9 900 campsites are annually inspected by the 327 inspectors of ACSI.

In each audit, 200 quality criteria are analyzed. Campers currently on the campsite at the time of the audit are surveyed to verify the accuracy of some information like the calm at nigh. The objectivity of the information is very important for ACSI as it contributes to the veracity of the rating.
